Finally, the best day of the Avalanche’s season is here. The Avs are one of a few teams in the running for the #1 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft held this summer in Montreal. The Avs finished last in the Western Conference with only the NY Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightening doing worse in the league. Based on three different mock drafts experts at the NHL held, the Avs are loosely expected to get the #3 pick. The Islanders are the favorite to get the #1 pick with Tampa Bay slated to get #2.
John Tavares of the OHL is widely regarded to be the top pick this year. In the mock drafts held earlier this season, the Avs hypothetically picked center Evandr Kane as their first pick, third overall.
The result’s of today’s lottey will be announced on live television tonight at 6pm Mountain Time on Versus. If you don’t get Versus, you can also watch the live stream at NHL.com. And of course, I’ll be back tonight with the results.
